Here’s the Artist List for Art Basel’s Upcoming Buenos Aires Event

Art Basel will continue its programming in Buenos Aires under the aegis of its Art Basel Cities program in September with a weeklong exhibition called Hopscotch (Rayuela) that will take place across three neighborhoods—La Boca, Puerto Madero, and Palermo. The event, which runs from September 6 through 12, will feature works by 16 Argentinian and international artists. Pieces for what the company is dubbing Art Basel Cities Week, will be situated in plazas, parks, and empty buildings, drawing connections between contemporary art, urban layouts and spaces, and the city’s history.

“All in different ways, the artists in the program imagine new types of choral participation, composing intricate choreographies in which individuals and collectivities are woven into new models of coexistence,” Cecilia Alemani, the artistic director Art Basel Cities Week, said in a statement.

Art works will range from site-specific sculptures and installations to live performances. Maurizio Cattelan, for example, will create a rather morbid collaborative project called Eternity, a collection of tombstones for living or imagined people. Other highlights include Eduardo Basualdo’s series of sculptures along the Rio de la Plata and a version of Pia Camil’s ongoing project that explores cultural heritage and exchange by way of T-shirts. Additionally, Art Basel Cities will present a selection of exhibitions, performances, and events at various museums, foundations, and nonprofit organizations in the city.

Art Basel Cities launched in 2016 with the aim of developing city-specific arts programming through multi-year partnerships with cities around the world. The first long-term elements of Art Basel Cities: Buenos Aires—including a crowdfunding platform for nonprofits in the city, a gallery internship program, and a service meant to foster international exchange opportunities—began in November 2017.
